Seychelles celebrates 43rd Anniversary of Independence

The President of the Republic, Mr Danny Faure, attended the National Day Parade at Stad Linite yesterday evening to commemorate the 43rd Anniversary of Seychelles' Independence.

This year's celebration was also attended by the Guest of Honour for National Day, the Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines Honourable. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves. 

The parade began with the symbolic presence of the powers of the Republic standing alongside President Faure and Vice-President Vincent Meriton for the Presidential Salute. The line up also included the Speaker of the National Assembly, Honourable Nicholas Prea, the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Francis MacGregor, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Dr Mathilda Twomey, Designated Minister Macsuzy Mondon, the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Wavel Ramkalawan, the Leader of Government Business in the National Assembly, Honourable Charles Decommarmond, the Chief of Defence Forces Colonel Clifford Roseline and the Commissioner of Police, Mr Kishnan Labonte.

This year's parade comprised of numerous platoons including Millitary, Police, Fire and Rescue Services, Seychelles National Youth Council, District Council, Duke of Edinburg's International Award Scheme, Young Citizens and Scouts. International platoons included French, Mauritius and India accompanied by the brass band.

As part the Parade, the audience present also viewed a fly past display which included Helicopter formation by Zil Air, Seychelles Air Force Doniers and French Air Force (CASA). 

The ceremony also featured a reflection presented by SIFCO representatives, performance of a patriotic song 'Sesel' by Phillipe Tousaint and artistik display by Seychellois youths around the theme of "water, fire and lights" 

As customary the parade concluded with light show and fireworks.
