52 new buses arrive to boost public service - 15.01.2011
Fifty-two new Tata buses have arrived in Seychelles to improve the public transport service, as well as the comfort of passengers.
The Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) said on Friday this addition to its fleet includes 35 buses with 36 seats, five 46-seaters and 12 with 55 seats. While the two larger types of bus are models the SPTC already has in operation, the 36-seaters are a new model – the Tata LPO 918.
These will be especially useful on hilly routes as their engines are more powerful than current buses of the same size. They are also narrower and so safer for our roads.
They will also enable the SPTC to take old buses and those with leaking roofs out of service to be refurbished. They are expected to be launched next week and will start operation in about 15 days. Members of the public are urged to use the new buses responsibly and to continue giving their full cooperation to the SPTC. With this significant addition to its fleet, the company said it will be advertising for more drivers. |
