Afreximbank to help develop the Blue economy strategy
The new president of the Africa Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), Dr Benedict Oramah, has said the bank is looking to work with local partners such as the Ministry of Finance, Trade and the Blue Economy, the Central Bank of Seychelles and other agencies to develop the Blue economy strategy.
He also commended Seychelles economy which he said is doing well and also thanked President James Michel for all the support towards the bank.
Dr Oramah was speaking to the press after paying a courtesy call on President Michel at State House yesterday morning.
He noted it was the second time he gets acquainted with Seychelles, the first being in 1997 when the Afreximbank took part in the extension of the Seychelles International Airport.
“That Blue economy strategy will be directed at making Seychelles even more important globally. As a financial centre, the bank is to support the big, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the idea is to work to incubate SMEs to have access to finance,” said Dr Oramah.
Dr Oramah remarked that the bank also had discussions with different agencies to provide technical assistance and training for banks like the Development Bank of Seychelles, which he said will help them deliver more effectively on their mandate.
He described his discussions with the president as very cordial and friendly.
