Artist wins contract to show work in Germany

Local artist Nigel Henri has won the chance of a lifetime – a contract to display over 80 of his paintings in Dusseldorf, Germany, for a year.
They will be on show during 2010 in the German office of the Gazprom company, which hires and exhibits the work of one artist per year.
Artists from all over the world can apply for such a contract, and Nigel said he has been trying for the past five years. While in Germany last year, he was invited to Dusseldorf, where he was told he was this year’s lucky candidate.
Working with the theme My City and My Life, he has taken real scenes observed on a daily basis and transferred them to his many canvases.
“Preparing over 80 pieces was no easy task,” he said.
“It took me around two years to be ready and I am now simply putting the final touches to the exhibition, but I can say I am now completely ready and looking forward to the challenge.”
Nigel said the best thing about this contract is that all his work will remain his property at the end.
He is set to leave the country on February 9, where besides introducing his work and giving presentations, he will promote Seychelles in as many ways as possible and will be back here in April.
“I would encourage other local artists to look for the possibility of such contracts in Seychelles, where they can hire out their work to companies or individuals for a certain period of time,” he said.
“And this does not only apply to paintings; it can apply to photography and other art forms as well.”
Nigel’s last overseas exhibition was in September 2009 when he displayed ‘Seychelles in the Eyes of Nigel Henri’ in Beijing, China.
