Assembly gives its approval to cabinet changes
The National Assembly yesterday approved the nominations of Danny Faure as the new Vice-President, Vincent Meriton as Designated Minister and Jean-Paul Adam, Peter Sinon and Erna Athanasius as ministers. While members of the majority party approved all the nominations, members of the opposition abstained from voting in all cases. Mr Adam is the new Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Sinon for Investment, Natural Resources and Industry and Dr Athanasius for Health. The new ministers will take up their posts on July 1. The nominees were presented for assembly approval in a motion tabled by the leader of government business Marie-Louise Potter. In her presentation Mrs Potter congratulated the five, whom she called “the five children of Seychelles”.
They have been entrusted with new responsibilities to help President James Michel deliver on the hopes of the Seychellois people, she said. Looking at the profiles of the nominees, Mrs Potter said she has no doubt that the President made a wise, intelligent and strategic choice. Mrs Potter also congratulated Vice-President Joseph Belmont for 28 years of devoted and loyal service and said he will remain an example to aspiring young leaders. And she praised former Health Minister Marie-Pierre Lloyd for her four years of devoted work under difficult circumstances at times. |
