Botanical Gardens given double-trunk palm

22.03.2010

The Botanical Gardens at Mont Fleuri received a double-trunk palm tree recently to add to its collection of exotic plants.

The double-trunk palm now stands tall at the Botanical Gardens

The tree, scientifically known as Chrysalidocarpus madagascariensis, was given by Patrick Lablache of Quincy Village.

The National Botanical Gardens Foundation’s chief executive Raymond Brioche said the double trunk makes this palm unique and it will surely be much appreciated by visitors.

He said people who wish to donate plants, especially rare ones or those with special features, are welcome to do so.
The foundation also accepts giant tortoises, and those interested can phone 670500.

The Botanical Gardens was founded in 1921 and covers 17 hectares. Its main roles are to educate people about the environment and to conserve plants. It is also a passive recreational area for visitors and promotes eco-tourism activities.
