Chinese embassy helps local children
06.11.2009
Children are the flowers of a country and the future of a nation, so we should take good care of them, Chinese ambassador to Seychelles Wang Weiguo said yesterday.
He was speaking at State House where he presented First Lady Nathalie Michel – chairperson of the Children’s Homes Foundation – with a batch of household items for the President’s Village children’s home at Port Glaud.
The items include rice cookers, irons and bed sheets, along with pillow cases, radio/CD players, non-stick pans and electro-thermo pots.
On behalf of the Chinese embassy, Mr Wang said they are proud to contribute to the wellbeing of Seychellois children and promised more help in future.
Mrs Michel thanked Mr Wang for the generous gift and reassured him that it will be put to good use.
The donation came after Mrs Michel visited the home to see what could be done to improve the lives of the children living there.
She then approached the Chinese embassy, which responded positively and presented the items.
The aim of the foundation – which oversees the country’s orphanages – is to improve the lives of less fortunate local children.
