Martyr and heroes of November 25 invasion honoured
Defence forces personnel have once again paid tribute to all those who fought for their country during the mercenary invasion of November 25, 1981.
The annual wreath-laying ceremony took place yesterday at the Moniman Laviktwar (Victory Monument) in the grounds of the International Airport, Pointe Larue.
The ceremony, which was presided over by the guards of honour and the National Brass Band, began with a blessing and words of reflection by Deacon Louis Agathine, chaplain of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF).
Chief of Defence Forces Leopold Payet laid the first wreath, followed by Chief Superintendent Guy Roucou, standing in for Commissioner of Police Ernest Quatre, who is out of the country.
They were followed by commanding officers of SPDF military bases, Indian military and naval advisers to the SPDF, representatives of the Seychelles National Youth Council and National Youth Service 1981 group, along with Seychellois ex-servicemen.
The annual event is held in memory of martyr and heroes of the November 25 invasion and to pay tribute to all those who took part in repulsing the attack.
