Denmark aims to help Seychelles in renewable energy - 30.03.2011
A newly accredited Danish diplomat is looking into the possibility of sharing his country’s renewable energy experience with Seychelles.
Ambassador Geert Aagaard Andersen was speaking yesterday after presenting his letter of accreditation to President James Michel at State House. This was in the presence of the Danish honorary consul here Basil Soundy. Mr Andersen said Denmark is well experienced in energy efficiency, especially in solar and wind power, and is willing to help Seychelles. He added that Seychelles is moving forward quickly and this will allow more cooperation between the two countries in vital areas such as information and communications technology, as well as oil and gas exploration. Seychelles’ economy is now strong, and more industrial activities will come as a result of this, he said. Mr Andersen also discussed with Mr Michel the scourge of piracy in the region. “The effort made by the Seychelles government in fighting piracy is very much appreciated, not only in the region but worldwide,” he said. He said he will also work closely with the Seychelles Tourism Board to promote the destination in Denmark. Mr Andersen, who will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, is the eighth Danish ambassador to Seychelles. |
