Diplomatic convention ends on a high note
The three-day long diplomatic convention held at Eden Bleu Hotel under the theme ‘Diplomacy for Sustainable Development’ has been hailed as “dynamic, interesting, productive and very rewarding”.
“In a few months’ time we hope to see businesses and things move forward in the interest of Seychelles,” secretary of state in the department of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Barry Faure, said while declaring the convention officially closed yesterday.
The convention is organised every two years and brings together ambassadors and consuls to Seychelles for discussion on various sectors of the economy, the well-being of Seychelles and enhancing bilateral relations between Seychelles and other countries.
Mr Faure thanked Otto Meier-Boeschenstein, who has been Seychelles’ consul in Zurich, Switzerland for over 40 years. Mr Meier-Boeschenstein has served as an honorary consul, honorary consul general and the dean of consular corps since his appointment in 1978. He was presented with “a symbolic gift”, a piece of art produced by local painters and artists. Discussions are underway for his successor to be appointed.
