Foreign ministry launches essay contest for students - 17.02.2011
He announced the contest when he met residents of Cascade, Pointe Larue, Anse Aux Pins, Au Cap, Anse Royale, Takamaka and Baie Lazare on Saturday.
The meeting, at the University of Seychelles (UniSey), was part of an ongoing effort to bring the ministry closer to the community.
Students from UniSey, the Polytechnic, the School of A-Level Studies and key representatives from the institutions also attended.
Mr Adam said the aim of the competition is to involve students in Seychelles’ foreign policy and the vital work of the ministry.
He added that it is a chance for those with an interest in international relations, and possibly a career in diplomacy, to engage with the ministry and show the unique and dynamic perspectives they might have to contribute to their country’s development.
The contest winner will be awarded a six-week paid attachment at the ministry’s Maison Quéau de Quinssy headquarters, which will include a period at a Seychelles embassy abroad.
Saturday’s meeting formed part of an initiative by the ministry to give the Seychellois public a greater understanding of the work it does. It also gave residents and students the chance to raise issues of importance to them, ask questions and talk about Seychelles’ foreign policy objectives.
Some of the key issues discussed included visa requirements for Seychellois travelling abroad, the repatriation of Somali pirates and Seychelles’ engagement with international organisations.
Further details of the essay competition will be made public and forwarded to the various educational institutions before the end of the month.
The ministry will hold its last public meeting, for the regions of Praslin and La Digue, at 2pm on Saturday February 19 at Baie Ste Anne community centre.
