German ambassador discusses cooperation with President Michel
Tourism, sustainable and eco-friendly development, as well as piracy were among the topics the new German ambassador to Seychelles, Andreas Peschke, discussed with President James Michel yesterday after presenting his credentials.
Hailing the good friendship between the two countries, Mr Peschke said last year a record number of German tourists came to Seychelles to enjoy its beautiful environment and wonderful hospitality of its people.
Though the number of German visitors to Seychelles was high last year, ambassador Peschke believes Germany can do more to increase that number.
He added that the Seychelles’ Ministry of Tourism and Culture Alain St Ange will be taking part in the forthcoming tourism fair in Berlin – the biggest such fair in Germany and in the world.
“As Seychelles’ reputation in Germany is excellent it would not be surprising to see another record year in tourist numbers from Germany,” said Ambassador Peschke.
In the sustainable and eco-friendly development sector where Germany has brought technical support and knowledge in sustainable energy particularly solar energy to Seychelles, he said his country has plans to do more to help.
“Other projects which have already been identified in the renewable energy sector include German energy agency – Dena – which has developed a solar energy concept for Seychelles in some pilot solar insulations and which have been installed. Germany wishes to see more cooperation in this field and we are ready for other cooperation as well,” said Ambassador Peschke.
Mr Peschke said he also discussed the fight against piracy with President Michel. This issue is of common interest for the two countries.
“I think we are close partners in the fight against piracy and we want to continue to be so until piracy is eradicated,” said Ambassador Peschke.
Also present during the meeting were the Minister for Foreign Affairs Jean-Paul Adam and the President’s Diplomatic Advisor Callixte d’Offay.
