A lot of young couples choose Seychelles to get married and or spend their honeymoon. However, Petra and Matthias Proft, a young at heart German couple does it a little differently: they have come to Seychelles to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary!

"This is an exceptional journey for us," says Matthias, an electronics R&D engineer from Germany. "Both of us had our 50th birthday last year and as it was also our silver wedding anniversary this year, we simply needed an extraordinary journey to celebrate this."

Matthias said silver weddings are probably not that rare but on the other hand the statistics of divorce doesn't look very nice either. Both he and his wife have witnessed such unfortunate outcomes among friends and relatives around them.

Petra, who is a manager in a health insurance company in Germany, first met Matthias in the late 1970s in the rowing club of Heilbronn, a city in southern Germany where they both grew up.
“It probably wasn't love at first sight, but we gradually fell in love. After seven years of being together we got married on June 17, 1989,” said Matthias.

“Well, since then important events have happened in our lives like the birth of our children - Philipp and Alexandra - and the move into a house in a small town a little north of Heilbronn,” added Matthias.

As in all married lives Matthias said there have been both good and bad times and he would be lying by pretending otherwise. But they more or less knew what they were doing back in 1989 and were serious about marriage being an alliance of trust - reliable for both ..."in good times AND in bad times".

While Matthias and Petra are travelling around Seychelles, their 23-year-old son Philipp and 21-year-old daughter Alexandra are taking care of the little row house in their home town of Siegelsbach. They said this way their mum and dad can enjoy their silver wedding anniversary journey.

On their roundtrip through the inner Seychelles islands, getting to know the country and the people and of course spending some time diving and snorkeling, Petra and Matthias Proft are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their wedding exactly today, June 17.

"We are very happy about our silver wedding anniversary and about being in this paradisiac environment to celebrate it. Since we still love each other we are also ready to face the years to come. We will probably be here again in the year 2039 in order to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary, God willing..."
