High-level appointments in finance and trade - 28.08.2010
Vice-President Danny Faure – who is also the Minister for Finance and Trade – yesterday announced four new appointments in his ministry.
Daniella Larue (1st picture from left) is the Public Enterprise Reform’s new consultant, replacing Australian national Michelle Tomkins who has left the country. Veronic Beeharry (3rd picture from left) becomes director-general for the PER’s monitoring division; previously she was the chief internal auditor. Former senior internal auditor Joan Valmont (2nd picture from left) is the new chief internal auditor, while Elizabeth Charles (4th picture from left) – who was the director for technical services – is named as the director-general of the newly created External Finance Management Unit (EFMU). Mr Faure said the government has decided to localise some of the posts in the ministry that were earlier held by Australian nationals. Mrs Larue has the knowledge and experience to help deepen the public enterprise reforms, he added. Mr Faure said with the economic reform programme we have strengthened our relationships with external multilateral organisations and now receive a lot of financial help with new projects – for example from the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the African Development Bank as well the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa.
This has led to the need to set up the EFMU, he added. “As part of the second-generation reforms, the public enterprise reforms are extremely important for Seychelles. We really need to have the ownership of these reforms, and it is appropriate that we have a Seychellois to head them,” he said. “We also need to beef up the internal audit, given that we now have an independent auditor general’s office. It is important that we in the Ministry of Finance and Trade strengthen the internal audit.” |
