John Esther is the new chief executive of the Sacos Group and he will officially take up the post on December 1, 2015.

According to a communiqué from the Sacos Group, Mr Esther’s appointment is subject to approval by the Financial Services Authority.

The communiqué adds that Mr Esther is an accomplished leader with a solid track record both in the private sector and public sector, as well as in setting up key governmental agencies such as the Financial Services Authority.

Mr Esther has a passion for customer care and team spirit and brings a mixture of technical expertise, operational experience and most importantly, corporate governance which stems from his last 12 years at Barclays Bank, and most recently as commercial banking director, adds the communiqué.

During his tenure at one of the world’s largest banks, Mr Esther oversaw a turnaround of one of Barclays’ divisions in mainland Africa and he will bring a wealth of managerial and strategic experience to the Sacos Group.

He will be responsible for working with the team to deliver on the plans that the board had been discussing over the past three months under the recent leadership of Pierre Laporte who left the company and the country last week to take up a new post at the World Bank.

Mr Laporte proved a valuable asset during his short tenure at Sacos and helped to structure a change in strategy and bring new direction.

As Mr Esther will officially take up the post of chief executive on December 1, 2015, director of operations Philippe Desvaux is the acting chief executive in the interim.

The board has wished Mr Esther the very best in his new post with the Sacos Group.
