Korean ambassador presents credentials to President Michel
The new ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Seychelles, Kim Jong-Guen, presented his credentials to President James Michel at State House yesterday morning.
As Mr Kim has rightly pointed out, Seychelles and South Korea share a long tradition of diplomatic relations and he is his country’s 10th ambassador to be accredited here.
However, if his predecessors were based in Nairobi, he will be based in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
The Korean ambassador has said that his country and Seychelles already enjoy good commercial ties whereby different Korean brands are imported here.
He has declared that the economic cooperation will be further developed, particularly in the fishing industry and within the blue economy concept, where Korean ships which are already fishing in Seychelles’ waters will propose joint ventures to Seychellois partners.
“Korea will provide finance and technology. On the other hand Seychelles will provide space and labour power. You will also be able to export fish to Korea,” the ambassador said.
He added that Seychelles and Korea will also collaborate in the renewable energy sector where his country will offer technical help in the development of the Victoria wind farm project and the carbon-free pilot project on the island of La Digue.
He has promised the involvement of Korean companies and universities.
Ambassador Kim who while at State House also paid a visit to Vice-President Danny Faure, has underlined that tourism also remains a potential area to be explored among Koreans and Seychellois.
He also paid a courtesy visit on National Assembly Speaker, Dr Patrick Herminie.
