Les Mamelles redevelopment project: More families get new homes
Eight more families have received the keys to their new homes as another phase of the Upper Les Mamelles housing redevelopment project is completed.
The families received their keys from the district’s member of the National Assembly Emmanuel Fideria in a short ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.
This was in the presence of the principal secretary for Project Planning and Implementation in the Ministry of Land Use and Housing Yves Choppy, the chief executive of the Property Management Company (PMC) Timothy Sinon, representatives of the Housing Finance Company (HFC) and the district’s administrator Doris Kiwale.
Addressing the families, Mr Sinon called on them to keep their houses and surroundings clean and tidy and turn their houses into true homes where love and respect will reign and good family values are passed on to the children.
He also reminded them of their obligations as new homeowners.
“It is also important as neighbours to respect one another, share good neighbourliness and respect PMC’s property and honour your agreements to the company,” he stressed.
For his part Mr Fideria reminded the new homeowners that once again the government has honoured its promise to them – which is ensuring through its social housing programme that Seychellois families live in dignity, in comfortable but affordable houses.
‘Now it is up to you to improve your home environment and turn it into a beautiful and happy one,” he told the families.
The six two-bedroom and two three-bedroom units forms part of Phase C of the Les Mamelles redevelopment project which started in the year 2000 with the aim of eradicating the old colonial style shelters which had served their purpose and were in a dilapidated state.
Last year a total of 16 units were completed and allocated to residents and to date 228 units in all have been completed and allocated under the project which is being funded by the Chinese government.
