More educational support for alcohol and drug campaign
22.12.2009
The Drug and Alcohol Council (DAC) has donated leaflets, posters and videos to the Ministry of Education to further educate secondary students on the effects of alcohol and drugs.
The World Health Organisation’s (WHO) liaison officer, Dr Cornelia Atsyor, received a sample of the educational material from DAC director Benjamin Vel and then presented it to Shirley Choppy from the ministry.
The ceremony, which took place at Care House in Victoria, was attended by health officers, and members and staff of the Campaign for Awareness, Resilience and Education against substance abuse.
The educational material, which will be used by teachers, counsellors and staff of other organisations, was initiated by the Mazin de Fwa committee.
The committee organises various activities aimed at helping young people to make the right choice about alcohol and drugs. It has received the support of the WHO and the Ministry of Health and Social Development.
Dr Atsyor said the WHO will continue to educate people on the dangers of excessive use of alcohol and she called on everyone to adopt sensible drinking habits.
Mrs Choppy thanked the WHO and the DAC for their continued support in educating young people on dangers of alcohol and drugs.
