This follows a training course called the WINISIS training programme launched by the Seychelles National Archives in collaboration with the Seychelles Bureau of Standards which took place recently at the archives at the National Library.

In his speech at the launch of the course, director general for culture Marcel Rosalie said the aim of the training is to equip staff with necessary knowledge and computing skills to improve their efficiency, resulting in their development and that of the institution in a modern era where things are moving faster.

He also said the training is part of the National Archives project to digitise documents in its custody, making them more accessible to the public through a computerised system.

Principal secretary for culture Benjamine Rose said the skills gained through the course will empower archives staff as a team and encourage them to “go forth and meet the set target of providing historical materials in digital format to all sectors of society, thus attaining the vision of the National Archives and the plan of the culture department”.

She also said her department will continue to provide training opportunities for all staff of the archives as and when available.
