New theme to unify our nation
A large crowd gathered at the Palais des Sports last Saturday to show their appreciation and support for this year’s national theme – Together, Ready for the Future – at its official launch ceremony.
Apart from its cultural and artistic side, the event was also a time for moral and spiritual reflection, all in line with the inspirational theme set to guide our thoughts and actions during 2010.
President James Michel was the guest of honour at the event, which was also attended by other local dignitaries.
Those present heard a series of addresses aimed at reinforcing moral values and encouraging a more serious approach in pushing the country forward.
Among these, referee Eddie Maillet put his success down to hard work, perseverance and discipline all through his football career, while Naddy Zialor – who is disabled – encouraged all those in the same situation to persevere and never to allow their disability to stop them from fulfilling their dreams.

A colourful cultural show then showcased the perfect unity between all age groups in society.
Along with a speech by Vice-President Joseph Belmont (see full text on page 3), the highlight of the event was the introduction of the theme’s logo – designed by Aubrey Adeline – and song composed by Raymond Clarisse.
Mr Clarisse said the song – Nou pare pour demen – should be used as a tool to unify everyone.
He explained that its lyrics cover the willingness and readiness to move forward, sustaining of discipline at all levels, unity and consolidation of democracy, and reinforcement of quality performance in government offices, as well as empowerment and innovation.
Mr Clarisse worked with Antoinette Dodin and upcoming vocalists Beverly Isaac and Aaron Jean. Colin Rath added his voice to the song, while Peter Jules worked on musical arrangements and Cyril Vital added the guitar.
