New US ambassador accredited
The new United States ambassador to Seychelles, Mary Jo Wills, presented her credentials to President James Michel at State House yesterday and later called on Vice-President Joseph Belmont.
Speaking to the media afterwards, she said talks with the two leaders centred on how to strengthen cooperation between Seychelles and the US, and how to ensure maritime security in the western Indian Ocean.
Mrs Wills said she is looking forward to working with Mr Michel and his government on these issues and others including climate change.
She will also help to continue building Seychelles’ capacity in fields such as the economy and security, she added.
Mrs Wills, who arrived here on Monday, is her country’s 14th ambassador to Seychelles and replaces Cesar B. Cabrera, who served from November 2006 to November 2008. She will be based in Port-Louis, Mauritius.
During her visit, she will today call on the National Assembly speaker Dr Patrick Herminie.
Courtesy calls on other high government officials have also been scheduled.
