1. Bike

If you are staying on the island, you will find that it is small and flat enough to easily navigate on two wheels. Most guesthouses provide bike rentals for guests, and several shops such as Tati's Bicycle Rental in La Passe on the northwest side of the island, and Kwikwi on the west coast. Hotels also keep bikes for their guests. Prices depend on the duration of the rental, though you should expect to pay around $11.

2. Ox cart

Ox carts are usually stationed by the jetty at La Passe. Although it is slightly in decline, this mode of transportation is still the most traditional way of getting around the island for visitors. It is a two-wheel transport, pulled by a cow and is efficient enough to bring you anywhere. The facility is commonly used by newlyweds on their wedding day.

It is often said that if you have not been on an ox cart you have not been to La Digue. So, the idea of getting on one is not too bad, especially if you enjoy a slow ride while taking advantage of the scenery. You can catch a ride on one any time as it can be seen sometimes going up and down the main road. The fee ranges from $160 – $200 for a full day trip.

3. Taxi

La Digue is known as an eco-island with the need to preserve its simple way of living, its tranquillity and its rich and unique biodiversity. Small in size, around 10.08 square metres, La Digue has little need for transportation infrastructure seen on the main island Mahe or even Praslin, the second most populated island. There are only a handful of taxis for hire on the island, and no car rental facility. As a result of the low supply, prices for taxi are high - approximately $90 for a half day and a lower rate depending on where you are heading.
