Pakistan keen to help in capacity-building - 16.12.2011
Pakistan is set to help Seychelles develop its capacity in various fields such as banking, diplomacy, medical and engineering.
This was said by Pakistan’s high commissioner to Seychelles, Muhammad Siddique, after paying a courtesy call on President James Michel yesterday at State House.
The visit was Mr Siddique’s second one to Seychelles and he said discussions between him and the head of state touched on several topics, including piracy.
“We share Seychelles’ concerns with regard to the threat that piracy poses and we also took part in the anti-piracy conference held last year. We will also assist Seychelles in every way we can, especially in terms of capacity-building,” he said.
“We also discussed some of the assistance that Pakistan is offering to Seychelles in terms of banking and diplomacy courses, and we also have some medical and engineering courses for Seychellois students to go study in Pakistan.”
He added that in terms of trade, Pakistan is also known for the popular Basmati rice it exports here and said that his general impression of Seychelles is a beautiful and friendly place.
He also noted the support that Seychelles and Pakistan give each other at international forums.
