President discusses Spanish investment in Seychelles - 17.09.2010
Mr Michel met the president, vice-presidents and members of the Confederation of Employers and Industries of Spain during his two-day visit this week.
He was accompanied by Minister for Home Affairs, Environment and Transport Joel Morgan, secretary of state Barry Faure, Seychelles Tourism Board chief executive Alain St Ange, chairman of the Seychelles Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dr V. Ramadoss, and chief executive of the Seychelles Hospitality and Tourism Association Jenifer Sinon.
“This meeting will deepen our relations with the private sector in Spain, and I am impressed with the level of interest there is in Spain to work together to develop new business ventures in Seychelles,” said Mr Michel.
Discussion centred on opportunities for investment in fisheries, tourism, renewable energy, electricity, water, infrastructure, IT, manufacturing and food projects in Seychelles.
“I want Seychelles to become one of the easiest countries with which to do business in the region. Furthermore we put an emphasis on protecting the environment in all business that we do, as 47% of our land territory is protected as nature reserves,” he said.
Gerardo Diaz Ferran, president of the confederation, praised Seychelles for the work it is doing to encourage tourism and trade with Spain. Members also commended Seychelles for its good governance of economic, political and environmental affairs.
Mr Ferran said they will send a delegation to Seychelles in the near future to continue talks and explore investment opportunities. He said President Michel’s speech at the meeting will be distributed to all enterprises and confederation members in Spain.
Mr Michel said he is greatly encouraged that as a result of meeting the confederation, a platform has been set up with the private sector of Spain to develop business in new and diversified areas between the two countries.
