President names new board for Air Seychelles
18.09.2009
The Office of the President has announced a new board to run Air Seychelles, with immediate effect.
This follows an external audit of the company carried out at the request of the government as part of the economic reform process and designed to enhance support from both the government and the private sector.
The new board has three representatives from government and three from the private sector, as well as the executive chairman, Captain David Savy, who remains in post. Its first meeting was held yesterday afternoon.
The full composition of the board is: executive chairman Captain David Savy and members Jean-Paul Adam, Veronique Herminie, Hans Aglae, Jean Weeling, Daniella Alis Payet and Simone de Comarmond.
The new board has the mandate to strengthen support to the executive chairman and further promote the following principles:
● Ensuring the strategic and policy interests of the shareholder;
● Providing strategic direction for future expansion of the airline;
● Cost-effectiveness and efficiency;
● Product development and enhancement;
● New routing into existing and new markets where viable;
● Selecting and appointing key management staff;
● Training and human resource development.
The changes are expected to strengthen the ability of Air Seychelles to support the tourism industry while continuing to act as an independent commercial entity.
The new board will also be tasked with carrying out such recommendations of recent government and independent-led audits into the operations of Air Seychelles as it sees fit.
“Air Seychelles has made some remarkable achievements over the years – it is the main carrier of our tourism industry and has built up an admirable reputation in the region and beyond,” President James Michel said after the review.
“Air Seychelles’ success has been led by a committed workforce that has strived consistently to take it to new heights. The board of Air Seychelles also has a key role in providing support and advice in the context of unprecedented challenges for the airline industry.
“I am confident that the new board will undertake its responsibilities with efficiency and for the good of the country.”
In his statement the President also thanked the former board members for their service to their country.
