President to address Unesco conference in Paris
10.10.2009
President James Michel will pay an official visit this weekend to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s (Unesco) General Conference in Paris, where he is one of the heads of state invited as guests of honour to give an address.
He is expected to address the conference on Monday October 12.
After the Unesco conference, the President will pay a landmark official visit to the Republic of Korea, at the invitation of the Korean government, the first by any Seychellois head of state.
He will follow this visit by launching the first Seychelles Tourism Seminar to be held in the People’s Republic of China.
During the three-day visit to South Korea, Mr Michel will meet President Lee Myung-bak and other senior government officials in the capital city of Seoul.
Talks are expected to focus on general aspects of cooperation between Seychelles and South Korea with special emphasis on the areas of mutual concern such as piracy in the Indian Ocean, climate change and Expo 2012.
The President will also visit the city of Daejeon, which is known as the hub for science and industry in Korea.
The tourism seminar in Beijing is being organised by the Seychelles embassy in collaboration with the Seychelles Tourism Board, and Mr Michel will deliver a keynote address at the event, which is aimed at encouraging more Chinese visitors to travel to Seychelles.
Major Seychellois tour operators and travel agencies, as well as Air Seychelles, will take part in the seminar, which will also involve key Chinese tourism-related agencies.
