Resort and wildlife clubs pledge to protect nature
The Constance Ephelia Resort and Wildlife Clubs of Seychelles (WCS) have renewed their pledge to preserve the environment through a series of activities in the hotel’s grounds at Port Launay.
This was organised to mark World Environment Day celebrated on June 5 under the theme: Many species, one planet, one future. Local geologist Patrick Samson with a youth group from his district, Port Glaud, also took part alongside WCS national coordinator Terence Vel and club members. They were accompanied by children from the President’s Village home. Their day started with a presentation on the biodiversity of the Port Launay region and the granitic islands of Seychelles given by Mr Samson in the resort’s conference room. Then the young club members planted trees at the foot of the path leading to the hillside villas, with the help of Ephelia staff. More fun was had when they walked along the resort’s nature trail leading to the popular Ros Lepa at Port Glaud. During the day’s event, children from the President’s Village also had a chance to use the facilities at the Ephelia, including the tennis court.
The resort’s landscape manager and activity coordinator Cedrick Thomas said they attach great importance to the environment, and the programme was drawn up specially to commemorate the day. |
