School of Advanced Level Studies graduation - 24.03.2012 43 graduates qualify for scholarships
Out of 135 graduates who have completed their A-levels last year at the School of Advanced Level Studies (Sals), 43 have qualified for a government scholarship.
The school’s principal, Dr Chirasree Sen-Varma, said this during its graduation ceremony on Thursday afternoon at the International Conference Centre.
Present at the event were Vice-President Danny Faure and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly David Pierre as well as Education Minister Macsuzy Mondon. Other ministers and high government officials also attended the graduation along with parents of the graduates.
Dr Sen-Varma said the success is a result of the school’s team effort in partnership with all its stakeholders.
She told the graduates that they have completed their general level of education and their foundation has been laid.
“You are now ready to move to the next level where you will get opportunity to acquire professional skills.”
She advised them to complete their tertiary education before settling in the world of work.
There are many course on offer locally; you can pursue a diploma, an advanced diploma or a degree course at different post secondary centres and the university, she told them.
“With various employment opportunities available in Seychelles, you must choose your higher education wisely so as to fulfil the needs of the labour market,” she added.
She urged them to invest in their professional life and aim to become the best in their field.
She said President James Michel’s message for 2012 stated : “We all can render Seychelles a service, and contribute to the contentment, prosperity and wellbeing of our brothers and sisters. It is not difficult. It requires a conscious effort, collective work, less selfishness, and greater involvement in our community. It requires tolerance, dialogue, national unity and a sense of patriotism.”
She added that this message very clearly describes the graduates’ future path of action and goals.
“Be humane in your approach, be confident, ethical, a team player and maintain your professionalism by working hard,” she said.
Dr Sen-Varma congratulated the graduates and thanked the government of Seychelles and the Ministry of Education for putting into place the structure which is helping our students become well educated men and women.
During the ceremony Patricia Marie, a student who has demonstrated exemplary behaviour and has also taken part in many activities, won the prestigious President’s Cup. She also received an award for best performer in Accounting and she won the Positive Youth Image award in 2011.
