Serbian ambassador says farewell
The second Serbian ambassador to be accredited to Seychelles, Dragan Momćilović, said farewell to President James Michel and Vice-President Danny Faure yesterday at State House as he reaches the end of his three and a half year mandate.
Speaking soon after meeting the two leaders Mr Momćilović said he is very proud to have succeeded in strengthening relations between the two countries in certain sectors namely education where Seychellois students can now once again benefit from scholarships to study in Belgrade.
He noted that prior to 2010 there was an active technical cooperation framework under which there had been exchanges in various field and a number of scholarships but this somehow dwindled after the Josip Broz Tito era.
Mr Momćilović said during his three and a half year mandate he has worked to revive this cooperation and at present there are five Seychellois students studying in Belgrade in fields like medicine, architecture and construction, considered as need areas for Seychelles.
He said he is very proud to have been able to restore cooperation in that sector to what it was before and said his government is hoping to be able to further increase and even double the number of students.
Agriculture is another field where Mr Momćilović said cooperation is being explored.
“We could bring our agricultural experts here to study your land and see what we can help you produce. There are some good agriculture institutes in Belgrade,” he said.
Another area where cooperation is being strengthened is health, where Mr Momćilović said thanks to the effort of his country’s honorary consul here, Dr Miodrag Todorović, “we are ready to bring more Serbian doctors and specialists to help Seychelles”.
Meeting the two Seychellois leaders yesterday Mr Momćilović said he delivered a message of good health and prosperity to the President and people of Seychelles from the Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić.
“Seychelles has made tremendous developments in the fields of economy, infrastructure and Serbia praises it for that and also for the leading role it has played in the fight against piracy,” Mr Momćilović said.
Mr Momćilović said Serbia who also has a contingent helping in the fight against piracy is happy and proud to be able to help Seychelles get rid of the scourge.
With regard to Serbia’s entry in the European Union in the coming years, Mr Momćilović said his country is very much satisfied with Seychelles support.
‘’We have good relations and consultations on the issue is excellent’’, he said.
He noted that he has personally conveyed an invitation to the Seychellois President, Vice-President and Minister for Foreign Affairs to visit Belgrade.
Mr Momćilović, who will be completing his mandate at the end of August, was based in Addis Ababa.
