Seychelles’ first ambassador to Saudi Arabia accredited
Dick Esparon is Seychelles’ first ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He presented his credentials to King Abdullah bin Abd-al-Aziz Al Saud on Friday August 29.
Seychelles and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia established diplomatic relations on September 28, 2000 and Mr Esparon is the first ever Seychellois non-resident ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia is the largest country in the Arabian Peninsula. It is an oil-based economy with the largest crude oil reserves in the world. It ranks as the largest producer as well as largest exporter of petroleum in the world and plays a leading role in OPEC, producing around 30% of the total OPEC oil production.
Ambassador Esparon acknowledged that Seychelles’ accreditation to Saudi Arabia would accelerate negotiations for a bilateral service agreement, which started in late 2012 and conclude a double taxation avoidance agreement with Saudi Arabia.
Moreover Seychelles would work closely with the Seychelles Tourism Board to increase visitor arrivals from the Kingdom and intensify its efforts to raise capital from foreign direct investment.
In a meeting following the accreditation ceremony, His Highness King Abdullah bin Abd-al-Aziz Al Saud spoke of the effects of terrorism and pleaded for more support and action on the part of all countries and the international community to fight terrorism in all its forms.
