Seychelles mourns the passing of founding President Mancham
As a sign of respect to the late Sir James R. Mancham – Seychelles’ Founding President – the national flag will fly at half-mast until his funeral.
This comes in a statement from President Danny Faure on the passing of former President Mancham.
Mr Mancham passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Glacis Sur Mer residence in the early hours of yesterday.
In his statement, President Faure describes Mr Mancham as “a true patriot, a veteran politician, and a committed advocate of national reconciliation”.
“He was a defender of liberty and champion of human rights. The world has lost a global apostle of peace, understanding, and unity. Seychelles has lost a true patriot,” says President Faure.
“His dreams for a more united, peaceful Seychelles where there is true reconciliation, needs to be fulfilled by all of us here today,” adds President Faure’s statement.
On behalf of the government, the people of Seychelles, and his family, President Faure extends his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Sir James Mancham.
Meanwhile President Faure personally paid a visit to Lady Catherine Mancham early yesterday afternoon at her Glacis residence to express his condolences.
