Seychelles’ pavilion draws big crowds at World Expo - 18.08.2010
Ambassador to China Philippe Le Gall said: “The flow of visitors has been non-stop every day from 9.30am till 10pm.
“Seychelles’ pavilion, being located centrally near the African pavilion – which welcomed its 10 millionth visitor two weeks ago – has been attracting attention due to the beauty of the stand, which local artist Michael Adams helped to design.”
Two recently-returned Seychellois who have been working at the pavilion for the last three months said working at the Expo was a unique experience with thousands of people flocking to the brightly designed stand.
Marie-Paule Lesperance, a Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation journalist who worked at the Expo, said the beauty of the pavilion, complemented by some of the best lighting, kept the flow of visitors constant.
And Genevieve Hoareau, from the Seychelles Tourism Board, added: “Everybody wanted a souvenir of the specially designed stamp because it features two giant tortoises, which symbolise something very important to them.
“All the commissioner generals of the World Expo praised our stamp as being the best one at the fair.”
The stamp was inspired by the gift of two Aldabran tortoises that Seychelles made to the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination last year.
The tortoises, now being cared for in the Shanghai zoo, were considered as a sign of the supreme friendship between Seychelles and China and were given a lot of media attention.
The World Expo will continue until October 31, by which time the African Pavilion is expected to have received 20 million visitors.
