Seychelles People’s Defence Forces
Their victory good example for us all
Thirty-four of our soldiers recently worked with dedication behind the scenes and some even risked their lives fighting for our country and rescued our fellow citizens from pirates.
Although they did so in the dark out at sea, the results of their patriotism and commitment to duty was soon clear for all of us to see as they brought home our fellow Seychellois along with those who threatened them and our livelihood.
President James Michel did well to reward them during Thursday’s ceremony at State House where Major Simon Laurencine – seen in our picture being congratulated by the President – led his fellow crew members in receiving medals of honour.
Other members of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces (SPDF) were also recognised as the pictures in our centre pages show.
At the beginning of the year President Michel said we were ready to deal with any eventuality because when we come together in unity anything is possible.
He said we were better equipped to face the future whatever it brought, with pride and without fear.
Members of the SPDF have shown us they are ready and we have shown them we appreciate their work.
Their example illustrates whatever we sow in the name of our country will fruit for all of us to benefit even if nobody notices at first.
Another example is that of the young people who helped set us on the new and modern economic road Mr Michel set us. They did their part quietly and hard and
now the country is enjoying the benefits of their work.
It now remains for the rest of us to work hard at personal, community and national level, Together, Ready for the Future, knowing our contribution counts.
