Seychelles ‘salutes birth of Kenya’s Second Republic’ - 31.08.2010
Foreign Minister Jean-Paul Adam has said the Seychellois people are proud to congratulate their Kenyan neighbours on the signing of their new constitution and offer them full support as they work to maximise their country’s potential.
The signing took place during a colourful ceremony held at Uhuru Park, Nairobi, on Friday August 27. “There is a sense of momentum in Kenya which will translate into great momentum for our region. We are proud to have been able to stand with them at this moment of great joy and celebration.” The event was attended by four regional heads of state, as well as many ministers and officials representing neighbouring states. Mr Adam was attending the event as the special representative of President James Michel, and conveyed the congratulations of the Seychelles government to Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Speaking from Swaziland, where he was attending the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa’s Council of Ministers, Mr Adam stressed that this historic event also opens many new doors for cooperation in the Comesa region. |
