Seychelles2020 Expo to give preview of our future - 05.02.2011
Enter Seychelles2020 Expo – a two-week show that will run from March 25 to April 6 in a revamped International Conference Centre.
It is aimed at giving Seychellois and foreigners alike a realistic glimpse of what’s in store over the next decade.
Seychelles2020 Expo aims to transform the country’s Vision 2020 into a real and “touchable” interactive exposition featuring the ambitions of the country.
It is aimed at showing Seychellois how they can find themselves even more at the centre of the decade’s development, what opportunities lie ahead and what mind-shifts need to change to make them happen.
At the end of the expo there will be an investment conference to look at new investment niches for Seychellois and foreigners who wish to take part in all facets of the country’s development.
Seychelles2020 Expo is being run under the umbrella of the National Celebrations Committee, which is chaired by Vice-President Danny Faure.
The expo’s executive director is Gilbert Pool, a publisher, writer and photographer who previously worked in government service as adviser to former President France Albert René.
His secretariat has assembled a team of Seychellois and international experts to carry out the design and technological components of the show, as well as integrate and coach young Seychellois in the various disciplines.
Mr Pool told Weekend Nation: “The style of the expo is something that has never been done or seen in Seychelles, or other countries in the region for that matter. It will definitely be a Seychelles first and meet best-of-class world standards.
“It will provoke a lot of thought, incite the imagination of the Seychellois, make them really part of the future, as well as answer many questions.
“The expo will project some exciting core ambitions of Seychelles and the Seychellois people and will help people to understand better what they can do and contribute to make Seychelles an even more special place.”
To prepare for the Seychelles2020 Expo, the ICCS is being given a facelift and a new skin inside and outside.
The expo will also have a strong internet component that will feature live webcams throughout the show, and the website will continue to be updated well after the end of the event.
The website is already in development, starting with a digital countdown clock, and anyone can go to www.seychelles2020.com to interact with it, giving suggestions and making contributions.
