Tanzanian cable link ‘best for Seychelles’ - 11.12.2010

The fibre-optic cable relay being offered by the Tanzanian telecommunication service provider Zantel is the “best for Seychelles” as it is the closest and is connected to all neighbouring countries in East Africa.

The company’s chief executive Norman Moyo said this at State House yesterday after he called on Vice-President Danny Faure.

“When Seychelles’ cable lands in Tanzania, there’s going to be a guarantee that it will never fail,” he said.

“Seychelles will never again be off-line and it will always have a lot of capacity.”

Mr Moyo said the company is laying a new cable in Tanzania, which will allow Seychelles to connect to Zambia, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda and their neighbouring countries.

Zantel will provide the landing station for the submarine fibre-optic cable, which will boost Seychelles’ internet connections with the rest of the world.

Later yesterday, Mr Moyo signed the landing party agreement on behalf of his company at the International Conference Centre.
