Tourism students back from success overseas
A group of 17 students from the Seychelles Tourism Academy (STA) have returned home after successfully completing their two-week overseas attachments.
Fifteen of the students – who are all in the third year of the four-year course – were placed in Mauritius, one in Dubai and another in Kenya.
And one other student did her attachment locally, at the Banyan Tree Resort.
In a recent press conference at the La Misère-based STA, the students met the various partners and stakeholders who had made their attachments possible.
These included Frederick Vidal, general manager of the Maia Resort; Roman Kopacek, the STA chairman; Binet Decamps, managing director of the Constance Hotels group; Claude Narain, chief executive of the Constance Academy; Peter Moncherry, general manager for tourism development at the Seychelles Tourism Board; and Marc Marivel, human resources manager for the Constance group.
Also present were programme coordinator Stella Bergman and Phillip Smith, the director of Shannon College in Ireland, which the students will attend from September next year for their bachelor’s degree.
Mr Smith is in the country working on the accreditation of the course and aims to validate it during his 20-day stay here.
Mr Narain said the students placed in Mauritius had given “very impressive performances, had great attitudes and were very committed to their work and studies”.
Three students – Joseph Cesar, Jean-Marc Larue and Florine Esparon – then gave accounts of their experiences and the knowledge they gained during the attachments.
