We are heading upwards again
04.07.2009
Our world partners are telling us we nearly hit the bottom, but we realised in time and changed course accordingly. Now we are heading back upwards, this time towards a higher level where we belong.
Both the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank have this week alone expressed their confidence in our future, and others like the Paris Club members, together with all our friendly countries, have acted to support us.
In their own words the World Bank talked about doubling our growth, which agrees with our earlier strategies.
The bank’s executive director Dr Toga McIntosh – seen here talking to President James Michel – said the President is clearly committed to taking our country to a new level. Left in the picture is World Bank adviser Dr Peter Larose.
Now that the international community and our President are committed and are keen to help push the country further, the question is: are we?
Obviously the global partners and our President have good intentions and are helping where they can, but they cannot do everything for us. We at community, enterprise, workplace and national levels must play our part.
In short, we must Come Together as Seychellois by introducing our own initiatives and supporting government and other efforts to usher our country and future into the world economic arena of greater prosperity.
Now is our chance to do so, so that we will be justified in telling our children in the future: “This is what I did for Seychelles when we were launching it to the new level where you see it today.”
