Winners of the 65-float parade - 12.03.2011
A total of 65 teams took part in the float parade which impressed crowds during the March 4-6 Carnaval International de Victoria. Twenty-one floats came from overseas while the rest were local. The Notting Hill Carnival team from London won first prize for the best international float, followed by Indonesia and Zimbabwe in second and third places. Mason’s Travel came first in the local category followed by the Jj Spirit Foundation and Indian Ocean Tuna. The Seychelles Tourism Academy won in the schools competition, with the University of Seychelles coming second. Local companies and teams from many countries wowed the crowds with their dazzling array of floats and themes ranging from the environment to factory work. The procession started at the Stad Linite, Roche Caïman, and headed into the town centre –performing along the way for the thousands who lined the streets. The float teams then paused at the National Library to perform for President James Michel and the other dignitaries who had come to Seychelles for the carnival. The procession started at 2pm and went on until the evening. Published here are pictures of the winning teams taken by our photographers Patrick Joubert and Joena Bonnelame.
