World Bank gives $9m loan to support economy - 10.12.2010
Seychelles’ economy has moved away from the stage where it needed emergency support and is now doing well.
The World Bank’s country representative Constantine Chikosi said this as he signed for a US $9 million loan – to be repaid in 25 years – for general budgetary support and to make it easier for businesses to operate here. Vice-President Danny Faure – who is also the Minister for Finance – signed for the loan on behalf of Seychelles at Liberty House on Tuesday. “The money is aimed at supporting priority reforms,” said Mr Chikosi. “The economy has gone through a difficult time, but it is remarkable how the economic team here have managed this transition because we now have a much better performing economy, thanks to the policies which have been implemented.
“We are now focusing not on emergency macrostabilisation but on how we can make the economy of Seychelles grow, checking what needs to be done to take it to the next level. |
