Youth ambassadors call on President Faure

A delegation consisting of young ambassadors who either represented Seychelles at major international youth events or are leaders of significant international youth bodies, called on President Danny Faure at State House yesterday.

They presented their projects to the president which are aimed at empowering other youths of Seychelles.

Accompanied by Alvin Laurence, chief executive of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC), members of the delegation included Annarose Clarisse who took part in the United Nations’ Youth Assembly in New York; Luther Denis, executive member of the East Africa Commonwealth Alliance for Young Entrepreneurs and Vanessa Seth, country coordinator AfriNYPE (African Network of Youth Policy Experts).

President Faure expressed his appreciation and support to the three youth ambassadors for their sacrifices and dedication towards their country. He noted that they should work in consultation with agencies and departments put in place to better their respective projects. The president acknowledged their vision of creating a better future for their peers.

"I am always touched when I see young people doing the right things for the country. I salute your dedications and I thank you for taking this path. I would like you to reach out to the youths and inspire them. This is why by having this young ambassadors programme, we break the gap by you talking to them, you understand their language. I am confident that you will do well in your various projects," said President Faure.

The East Africa Commonwealth Alliance for Young Entrepreneurs consist of youth entrepreneurship organisations from six East African Commonwealth countries who have agreed to join forces and form a regional alliance. Its vision is a thriving environment for young entrepreneurs in East Africa that contributes to sustainable economic growth and social development.

The new network's mission will be “to connect, unify and build the capacity of young entrepreneurs across East Africa, so as to drive trade, advocate for change and enhance the entrepreneurship culture”.

AfriNYPE, whichcame alive during the First Global Forum on Youth Policies in Baku, Azerbaijan, was established by African delegates to enhance advocacy for youth policy implementations and realisations among African countries by persuading Africa’s UN Member States to renew their commitments regarding implementing youth policies on the continent.

The network will also facilitate knowledge development on youth policies.

Explaining the purpose of their visit to President Faure and the role of the youth ambassadors, Mr Laurence said it is the second time this year that we have three youths meeting President Faure who was the vice-president before, to endorse the youth ambassadors’ programmes.

“Those youths are already in contact with international organisations, which are having special projects and leading them here in Seychelles. These young people are leading those projects for the benefit of Seychelles and the young people here,” said Mr Laurence.

As for the young ambassadors, they explained their projects of their affiliated organisations and how they plan to get other youths on board.
